One Web

For the next ten days, every feed will try to split us apart. Anger pays, and it's counting on us to turn on each other. So we'll do the one thing nobody expects: reach for each other, on purpose, every day, in public. Then on Election Night, we'll be together.

Ten days

One act a day

Ten days, one act a day, then Election Night together.

The Ten Acts

One thread a day

  1. Day 1 · Oct 24Stop. Listen. Share.Follow a few people in the comments of the day's post, say hello, then comment so the next person can find you.
  2. Day 2 · Oct 25Take back your feedSwitch to your Following feed, and tap "Not interested" on anything built to make you furious.
  3. Day 3 · Oct 26Cross the lineFollow three real people who don't vote like you. Not to argue. To remember they're human.
  4. Day 4 · Oct 27Take flightA wounded eagle from our land is going home. Send him off in the comments with a wish, a prayer, or a word, and name one thing you're ready to set free.
  5. Day 5 · Oct 28Fly homeWatch him fly. Then tag someone who carried you when you were knocked down, and thank them.
  6. Day 6 · Oct 29Spot the fakeBefore you share a video, find the person's own account and who posted it first.
  7. Day 7 · Oct 30The phone callCall one person you stopped talking to over politics. Not to win. Just to say "I miss you."
  8. Day 8 · Oct 31Go outsideMeet one neighbor in person, and check on an elder: some Medicare plans are closing, and free help exists. Bring flowers if you've got them.
  9. Day 9 · Nov 1Breathe togetherMake your plan for Election Night: who you'll be with, what you'll turn off, how you'll breathe.
  10. Day 10 · Nov 2Hold the webTell three people you'll be with them tomorrow night, whatever happens.
  11. Election Night · Nov 3The Election Night Rest StopWe go live together on Instagram. No results, no commentary, no sides. Just breathing, music, and family, whatever happens.
  12. The morning after · Nov 4Still familyNo gloating, no despair. Reach for one person on the other side of the result.

Ground Rules

How the web holds

  • No sides. This isn't about who you vote for. It's about refusing to let a machine decide who your neighbor is.
  • Nothing to buy, nothing to join. No sign-up, no fee, no list. Ever.
  • Real connection, not follow-for-follow. Follow a few people a day and say hello. Following hundreds at once can get an account limited, and it isn't the point.
  • The golden rule, with a spine. Reaching across a line doesn't mean accepting cruelty. If someone is cruel, you can bless them and block them.
  • Check before you share. In election season, fakes travel fast. The Dispatch has a one-minute video check.

We make our own connective tissue, thread by thread, like ivy up a wall.
